Understanding Mexican Sizes

Mexican sizes are different than either the US, European or the UK sizes. The country got its own sizing standard after many international retailers in the country complained of high return rate in apparel and noticed how Mexicans seem to not find the right fit of clothes or even shoes for them due to the differences in physical proportions of Mexicans with body types used for other internationally-recognized sizing standards and brands.
In average, Mexican males in their 18 to 25s is said to weigh 170.41 pounds (77.30 kilograms) and have a 5’5 inches (1.67 meters) in height. Average Mexican women in that age range typically weigh 138 pounds (62.9 kg) and are 5’2 inches (1.60 meters) tall.
Mexican clothes sizing for women usually start with a 26, 28, 30, 32 … until 48, which in US sizes translates to a US 2, 4, 6, 8 … until 24. For men, Mexican sizes, in general, starts with a 36, 38, 40, 42 until 46, or sometimes the tags are ECH, CH, M, G, EG or EEG which in the US is a size starting with an XXS to XL.
For children, Mexican sizes are labeled generally based on age. Shirts or tops have a sizing standard from S-XL and bottoms are labeled from 4-16. Instead of body measurements, the sizes for kids in Mexico are based on age.
Remember: There is no one standard of sizing used in Mexico. Depending on the brand of clothes or shoes, Mexican sizes could have either their own sizing standards or use the US, UK or European standards.
