If you’re not sure how to find the right shoe size for your girl – or what size a girl wears in boys shoes – you’re in the right place! In this article, we’ll discuss the basics about girls shoe sizes with girl shoe size charts, boys to girls shoe size conversion, and illustrations.
How Do Girl Shoe Sizes Work?
There are two primary types of girl shoe sizes. Girls from the age of 1 month to about 4-5 will wear toddler shoes which are usually marked with a “T,” and run from size 0T to 13T. A size 5T would be a size 5 toddler shoe. Once your girl is older and outgrows the largest size 13T toddler shoe, she will move onto “youth” or “big kid” shoes, which are usually marked with a “Y” and run from size 1-7.
Watch out: A size 1Y is larger than a size 13T.

When To Start Buying Womens Sizes?
You can start thinking about buying women’s sizes for your girl once she’s started to wear about a size 4Y or 5Y shoe. This is because women’s shoe sizes are actually quite similar in size to youth shoe sizes. A size 7 women’s shoe, for example, is usually equal to a size 5Y shoe, though this may vary slightly depending on the brand.
So, once your girl has started wearing a larger youth size, you can consider switching her to a women’s shoe, as long as her foot is large enough.
